Whitewater River Desert Cleanup
Whitewater is a special place to me. I have been coming to Whitewater since I was a child my family used to bring us up into this area where we would spend hot summer desert days dwelling in a river in the Sonoran Desert. Over the years this location has seen more traffic more and more people are coming out here that don’t live in the nearby areas there is an increasing amount of trash being left behind.
Three years ago a friend and I randomly decided to come out with trash bags and we hauled out all the trash bags that we brought with us including broken fold up chairs, broken umbrellas and pop up canopies. Last year a group of 25+ join together to clean up Whitewater. Just to clarify this is not the location where the preserve is located, nor is it sponsored. I made a Amazon Wish List filled with items needed for the cleanup. Folks that join bring their own heavy duty trashbags, trash picking sticks and gloves.
Last year we hauled out four truck loads of trash, the nice folks at the Whitewater preserve let us use there’s dumpster so we can load up. We actually filled both of their dumpsters with the trash from whitewater river cleanup.
The type of trash that we are picking up the most of are diapers, beer bottles, cans food packaging from fast food restaurants, abandoned clothing. These are what we pick up aside of broken chairs and umbrellas. People have stuffed the plants and shrubs with their trash. I think of the young generation watching this happen and what sort of an example is being set.

We will have a potluck following the cleanup. Please bring a vegetarian dish. Bring your own plate and eating utensils. Bring water too Along with a mug. I will be offering for those interested in a plant te meditation working with a local native medicinal plant While we are all sitting and relaxing post cleanup. WE WILL MEET OFF THE 10FWY & WHITEWATER EXIT IN WHITEWATER CA. WHEN YOU EXIT THE FWY YOU WILL MAKE A RIGHT ONTO WHITEWATER CUTOFF. THERE YOU WILL SEE CARS PARKED. WE WILL MEET AT 8AM BUT COME AS YOU CAN. WALK DOWN TOWARDS WHITEWATER ROCK & SUPPLY YOU CAN NOT MISS US THERE
