The Western Joshua Tree was granted temporary protection of one year under the California Endangered Species Act
(CESA) on September 20, 2020 while Fish & Wildlife conduct the scientific studies that would determine it a threatened species and grant permanent CESA protection.
Despite the temporary CESA protection there are unfortunately those who will continue to illegally take (kill) the Western Joshua Tree.
If you witness anyone removing, cutting, transplanting the plant please report to Fish & Wildlife at their CalTIP number 1.888.334.2258 and report immediately to a local law enforcement agency non-emergency number. Take photos, videos of license plates on vehicles. For further questions contact our group of Voices of Stewards
